Somewhere Over The Rainbow...

Source: designcrisis

Hilary knew that most people buy books according to content, but she dared to be different-- buying her books according to where their covers fell within the color spectrum...

  1. There was an installation like this at a book store on Valencia St. in San Francisco. The artist asked the store owner if he could do this, and to his surprise, the owner agreed. It was quite a bit of work, all the books had to be tagged as to what section of the store they came from, because at the end of the month they all had to be put back. The book store owner said it made for an interesting response from people because they found and bought books that they normally never would have looked at.

  4. Does the designer get cranky when you remove a book to read it I wonder?

  6. I hate it when people arrange their books by color instead of topic. It goes against everything I hold to be good, true and right.

  9. Well I hapen to know that the books in the British Library stacks are stored according to their size (width and height not number of pages), not anything logical like subject, author, title, etc.
(Or at least they were back in, oh, 1980, when I was a youngster)
